Thisability Skills development programme

frayintermedia delivered the second Media24 sponsored Thisability skills development program.

The training is aimed at young people living with disabilities from various parts of the country with the intent to equip these aspiring storytellers with fundamental journalism skills through an accredited course. However, only six applicants are accepted. This year’s group had Kgomotso Moso, Regina Ndlovu, Kamokeelo Teele, Thuthula Sodumo, Sihle Khumalo and Thabiso Molopo. The skills programme is managed by the skilful media practitioner Lizeka Mda.

The first programme was conducted in June 2015 and was strong enough to motivate for a second leg which it took place this year 2017.

This year’s training was delivered from 27 – 30 March 2017 at the Media24 offices, Auckland Park. The week long programme explored the different phases involved in the process of producing an effective story, from identifying target audiences, brainstorming story ideas, the writing process to media laws and ethics.

Media24 and THISABILITY Newspaper aims at dedicating resources to enable empowered participation in the mainstreaming discourse where different views, opinions and stories are shared to motivate and inform the general public. A lot of enabling environments are being made possible by a platform of statutes that promote inclusion and self-expression. At the end of it all, human rights are observed for persons with disabilities to enjoy general life offerings.
