The company was launched in 2005 and focused on media training.  Since then we have broadened our scope to include advocacy support and multimedia production.   

Paula Fray

Founder & MD


Paula Fray has worked in media for more than two decades as a journalist, editor, trainer and media manager.  Paula was the first female editor of the Saturday Star newspaper then left to start her own company in 2005.  


She is a trustee of Brand SA and Media Monitoring Africa and has wide-ranging consultancy and project management experience.


Paula graduated with a BJourn degree from Rhodes University and has a Woman and Law Certificate from UNISA. A recipient of the prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University, she is a former member of the Nieman Foundation Advisory Board at Harvard.

Des Latham 

Head of Multimedia


Former Business Day TV News Editor and BDFM multimedia editor,  An early adopter in most digital spheres, he ran his own mobile phone applications company for ten years, as CEO of Mobile Active Digital.


Des has a BA honours degree in African history from Rhodes. He attended Stanford University as a Reuters Knight Fellow in 1993/4. He has a strategic leader’s certificate from Henley Business School, and an applied economics certificate from UCT. He has also studied Java code at the Computer Training Institute.

Prudence Tlhale

Training Manager


She has worked for industry bodies such as the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and Print and Digital Media South Africa (PDMSA). 

Prudence is completing her studies in Marketing Communications through the AAA School of Advertising.

Sandra Roberts

Head of Research

Sandra Roberts has 12 years of experience in research in civil society in a range of issues related to media development, media freedom and journalism. She also has research interests in human rights issues related to health, children, gender, migration, livelihoods, human development and others.



Before joining frayintermedia, she was the Centre Manager of the Centre of Excellence in Human Development at the University of the Witwatersrand.  She was previously the Writing Unit Manager of the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism and the Head of Research of Media Monitoring Africa.  She has her degree in Information Science and her honours and Masters (cum laude) in Sociology. She is currently completing her doctorate in Sociology.

Nhlanhla Kubeka

Advocacy Co-ordinator 


Nhlanhla previously worked for Inter Press Service Africa (IPS) and frayintermedia as a Public Relations intern. He graduated with a Public Relations Management national diploma from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in 2011.


At frayintermedia he works for the advocacy unit which builds client advocacy programmes in the media and creates social media content. Nhlanhla co-ordinates workshops and also specialises in media relations. 

In 2016, he graduated with a B-Tech in Public Relations Management at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and tweets in his personal capacity.

Joselyn Taruona


Her main focus is accounting and managing frayintermedia finances. She loves figures and has more than 5 years experience in accounting.


She started her accounting career in the manufacturing industry. Joselyn previously worked at Kompas Accounting where she gained considerable accounting and tax experience.

Tafadzwa Rafemoyo 

PA to the MD 


Tafadzwa holds a BA in Business & Management from Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University) (UK) and an advanced diploma in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives (ABE – UK) of which she is also an associate member. 


She has over 15 years experience in the administration field, drawn from working in both corporate and non-governmental organisations environments, in Zimbabwe, England, and South Africa. Tafadzwa is highly experienced in areas such as event management both internal and external, ranging from workshops, product launches and press briefings. Other areas of specialty include corporate communications and strategy implementation

Campbell Easton  

Multimedia Producer

Campbell studied television journalism and philosophy at Rhodes University, graduating with a Bachelors of Journalism & Media Studies. During this time he produced content for several entities, and developed a robust portfolio of video journalism.


In 2015 he spent a great deal of time studying the politics of representation and directed a documentary on the tense racial climate at Rhodes. Campbell can produce content for a range of platforms, with skills in video, photography, radio, and print and has a background working both in the field and studio environments. In his spare time he is teaching himself HTML coding and economics.

Boitumelo Molusi 

Advocacy Project Officer


Boitumelo is a Public Relations graduate from the University of Johannesburg and recently joined frayintermedia in 2016 as an intern in the advocacy division.

She has a passion for writing and blogs in her spare time. Boitumelo acquired a year’s experience working in a Public Relations agency prior to joining frayintermedia.

Wynona Latham



Wynona has produced stories for a number of South African publications such as The Star and The New Age at her time at frayintermedia.


She also works as a sub-editor, researcher and social media manager. She has a Bachelor of Journalism with distinction from Rhodes University.

Dumisane Ndobe

Junior Researcher


Dumisane is a junior researcher at frayintermedia. Proficient in field and desktop research, he conducts organisational evaluations as well as original qualitative and quantitative research. Dumisane has knowledge of varyious African contexts, having conducted research on a number of African countries.

He holds a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, an unusual degree with three majors, and an honours in Urban Sociology from the University of Johannesburg.

Nasya Smith

Multimedia Producer


Nasya has an honours degree in Journalism and Media Studies at Wits University in Johannesburg.

She joined frayintermedia as multimedia producer and has gained experience in African documentary filming, visual design and video editing and storytelling.
